Bike Riding

This is a big thing, because up until yesterday, Brogan refused to peddle. To get around he'd do "The Flintstone", getting so angry he'd be in tears when I would try to get him to use the peddles. As with so many other things lately, peddling his tricycle has just kind of fallen into place. Yesterday when we took the bikes outside he got on and started peddling, like that's the way he'd always done it.

"It's Poop"

One of my greatest aggravations with Brogan is the fact that he is four and STILL not completely potty trained. He goes #1 on the potty not a problem (though he does have to be watched and prompted from time to time) but #2 on the pot was completely evading his ability. I could not understand why he couldn't grasp the connection between what was coming out of him and where it should be deposited. It was very frustrating for me to be cleaning out Brogans pants, I have swung between bouts of inner rage and complete hopelessness because nothing I did encouraged him to use the toilet for that particular bodily function. Lately it was becoming even worse, as he'd taken to "cleaning out" his own pants. You don't want to know the details of that.
On Tuesday I caught him smelling up the house and whisked him off to the toilet before any damage was done to his under pants. After he was done he stood up and we both kind of just stood there staring at what he'd planted. I have to say, he poops like a full grown man, so it's a sight to behold. As Jerry says, "The boy really knows how to fill a bowl." Then he asked something that caught me totally off guard, "What's that mom?" More than a little confused I answered, "It's poop Brogan. Big poop." He didn't give any response, just flushed the toilet, washed his hands and ran off. However, since then, he has announced every time he has to go to use the facilities - for both ends.
This has made me consider - maybe he just didn't know what I was talking about when I was asking/telling him to go poop. I thought he would have made the connection since as I clean up his pants I would be saying things like, "Brogan, don't poop in your pants.", "This is disgusting Brogan! Poop goes in the TOILET!" But maybe he didn't. Maybe he needed to be pointed to the actual substance as I was saying it. Because as I have stated, he has not had one accident. I'm not holding my breath that this is the end of messy pants - but it's a good start!

Mat Man

I have yet to figure out why Brogan calls him "Mat Man", or if I am even hearing him correctly. However, as Brogan draws this picture, he sings a song,
"Mat Man has one head one head one head
Two eyes two eyes two eyes ..."
On and on. Until Mat Man if finished being drawn. It's kind of funny too, because as he get to "one heart, one stomach, two lungs" he doesn't draw them. He points to where they would be on the inside of him, but does not draw them. I wonder if it's because he knows those particular "parts" are on the inside. Or if he just doesn't know what they look like so he can't draw them. Either way, it's a funny site to see as he's drawing "Mat Man" over and over again.
